Didn't get to go here my first trip up last year but was determined to go this time--friends have said they have good burgers and I like me a good burger!!! There's a sign posted not to expect it really fast but the wait for a couple burgers, fries and sodas wasn't too bad at all. Well worth the little wait on a beautiful day. Really good burgers, hot skinny fries and cold sodas. They have a covered outdoor eating area with picnic tables, tables out in the sun, I think a play area for kids, a big wooden swing to sit on.....and a juke box. Loaded jukebox. I'm a music junkie and could have sat on that swing all day eating ice cream loading $$ into it. Didnt have room to eat ice cream that day but now have a "reason" to go back. I guess the business burnt down in the early 2000's and rebuilt the next year. So glad they did!!

Great place to stop for a sweet treat. The ice cream cones and malts are the best. Try the cherry malt. Real Door Cty cherries used. Nice little juke box for outdoor music. Grab a malt before you hop on the ferry

The Albatross is an essential stop, whenever I hit the island during the summer season. The beef in their burgers are top-notch. I eat a lot of burgers... I mean a LOT of burgers, and their hamburger meat is some of the most savory and juicy I've had. They're generous with toppings, have numerous specialty burgers, lost of sides, and hundreds of combinations of milkshakes and malts. The line can get pretty long, at peak hours, but the staff still manages to cook up tasty food in a reasonable amount of time. They have a nice open-air seating area, with a jukebox, bench-swings, and a small play area for kids. I'd definitely recommend the Alby for a tasty drive-in style lunch.

We stopped here the other day on our first trip to the island. Basically it was the only place open that looked decent. The burgers were fresh and delish. The fried cheese curds were crispy and tasty. The fries were kind of blah but that's okay. The juke box made up for that. The owner is a singer and a couple of her albums are even in the juke box. Very cool. Everything is made to order so sit down and take it easy, pop some quarters in and listen to some music while you wait for lunch. My toddler loved the music and play area too. We'll be back next year!

Nice covered seating area and bench style tables with umbrellas to sit and a large sandbox for the kids, but the hotdogs and cheeseburgers were nothing special (poppy seeds on the hotdog buns which the kids did not like). My husband had a specialty burger which he liked, and the soft taco I had was large, but not the best I've ever tasted. Cost for 2 adults, 3 kids was approximately $45. So Considering the quality of food and the cost, I give the Albatross an average rating.

This pace is awesome. After several trips to Washington Island, I was so happy to discover this gem. It's funny--this is perhaps the best "drive in" experience I've ever had, and yet we biked in instead of driving in--as I'd imagine many of their guests do. Great cheese curds and really good burgers. Outdoor Jukebox is wonderful as well. A definite stop on any trip to Washington Island.

This place was discovered whilst out on Rock Island actually, it was the favorite spot of Dave the wood-cutter. In his words "Chili-cheese dogs as big as your head and loud rock n roll, I like loud rock n roll." Hence after a few days on Rock Island, we got the call of the wild and to the Alby we went. You read the sign which essentially says "We take a while, deal with it." So you order some burgers, curds and jalop pops and start plugging that juke box with Billy Joel, Supertramp and Brittney (yes, it's diverse). Food is solid, all freshly fried. The portions aren't enormous fatty-WI style but if you've been camping a few days it tastes divine. And the whole atmosphere makes it all. Take some time to kick back, recline on the bench swing, nosh on a Cowboy burger and crank up that REO Speedwagon!

The burgers are good. Very good. So were the cheese curds and onion rings. I haven't ventured much beyond that genre of food at the Alby. My friend tried the fish taco and said that was good as well. I stick more to the basics there. The seating is outside which is great for great weather, not so great for not so great weather. So far we are 50/50 on the seating. There is a sandbox for kids to play in which can save your life depending on the kind of day you are having with your children. The service is not super fast or friendly (in my experience) but we still keep coming back to the Alby. My husband is a particularly strong fan. I would suggest getting the Alby burger, our friend who was with us this last trip is still talking about that burger. They have a larger menu then one might think at a burger stand, and their serving size of ice cream is very generous - definitely split-able!

Great place to come in and get a bite to eat. If you're craving a hot dog or hamburger, chicken or a shake, Albatross is the place! I have never come to the island and managed to avoid the Albatross. The food here is always excellent. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Drive right up hop out of your car and you're right in line! They have a large covered area with benches for you to enjoy your meal, and a small play area for your children. If you normally shy away from fast food, but are vacationing on the island, it's time to remind your taste buds how delicious real fast food is. This makes any McDonalds or Burger King seem like a distant memory.

We hit this place after a couple of dives in Washington Harbor, and the burger hit the spot! Really good burgers, not too thin, really juicy, not overcooked. Get a burger and some jalapeno poppers and a shake after a couple of great dives and life is sweet and fine! Its a drive in type of place (no carhops though, as far as I saw), and the menu covers the gauntlet of burgers and dogs and fries and fish sandwiches, and chicken sandwiches, and tacos, and so on. You'll find something there you'll want to eat, unless you're looking for a fancy sit-down and a table-cloth. but if you're after that you won't be here anyway. Chow Baby!!!!

The Alby! The best place to come for burgers or ice cream on the island. Always great service and everything is made fresh. It's a Washington Island institution for a reason. If you're a summer resident or a day tripper, you can't *not* go at some point. It's just not to be missed!

Just so you know, the food here is outstanding. But the service is SLLOOOWWWW. Follow the advice on the note in the window, and enjoy the flowers while your food is carefully prepared. My husband was crazy about his burger. My fish taco could've used more salsa or tartar sauce - something more liquidy and it woul'dve been outstanding. The cheese curds were the freshest I've ever tasted. Really fun outdoor seating area.

Great burgers, think shakes, and onion rings that melt in your mouth. Not always open, but worth the ferry ride if it is. See you there.
